Measuring Up Do Now: (Teacher Page)
Pages Do Now: (Teacher Page) What are 3 different ways to measure length? Objective: All students will be able to demonstrate application of measuring length by finding the measurements of various lines. Homework: - Choose a left side activity that reflects your understanding of measuring and metric system. (Student Page)
2
Measuring Up Language Objective: Students will listen to the directions for using a ruler in order to accurately measure different lines. I Can Statements: I can measure objects in cm and mm using a ruler.
3
Measuring Up Create a list on your student page (12):
Unit of distance: Amount of liquid: Unit of time: Using your list of words, fill in the story and share with a partner. Objective: All students will be able to demonstrate application of measuring length by finding the measurements of various lines.

Measuring Up There are 3 basic units used in the metric system: (Teacher Page) Meter – unit for measuring an object’s length. Symbol = m Gram – unit for measuring an object’s mass. Symbol = g Liter – unit for measuring an object’s volume. Symbol = L Objective: All students will be able to demonstrate application of measuring length by finding the measurements of various lines.

Measuring Up Objective: All students will be able to demonstrate application of measuring length by finding the measurements of various lines.
7
Measuring Up Let’s do some measuring practice. Measure the lines on the worksheet in both cm and mm. Fold and glue onto your student page. See the teacher for directions how. Objective: All students will be able to demonstrate application of measuring length by finding the measurements of various lines.
8
Measuring Up Assessment: - Complete the measurement quiz. Turn in to the teacher today. You will glue this in tomorrow once it is graded. Objective: All students will be able to demonstrate application of measuring length by finding the measurements of various lines.

Measuring Up Summary: When using a ruler we will always use the cm/mm side. It is important to line up the edge of the object with the starting point on the ruler, not the edge. When measuring in cm, the answer will sometimes be in decimals. Language Objective: Students will listen to the directions for using a ruler in order to accurately measure different lines. I Can Statements: I can measure objects in cm and mm using a ruler.
