Answer these questions on the scrap paper. You will be submitting this paper so write your name on it. What is the strongest part of your essay? If you don’t have your essay done, explain why.

If you are not prepared for today
You don’t have your rough draft. You will not be a distraction to your classmates who came prepared. You will be moving seats away from your prepared classmates. You will be handwriting your rough draft today. You will not earn participation points for today. Might I suggest that you re-read or read for the first time the novel?

Revising your essay Check first
FCAs are written in the UPPER LEFT CORNER Your name, date, and class period is in the UPPER RIGHT CORNER Do you have the author and novel title in the first paragraph? Is the novel title properly punctuated?

Do you: Identify the specific types of the literary element used – for setting, which setting, for character, who and how, for imagery, what? Identify the theme that the literary elements help to develop in the novel? State an opinion in the theme or just state a topic?

Peer revision You must switch papers with a peer who ALSO has a paper.
You are silently reading your partner’s paper and answering the questions on revising assignment. FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS or you will be penalized for the class participation grade I am giving you for this activity. I will model for you now how to do the activity. sample _Seize the Day_ rough draft

Peer Revision When you and your partner are both finished with the activity, switch back and then read over their comments. Ask each other questions about how to improve your paper. When you are finished discussing, work silently on revising – USE THE ARMS METHOD.
