11
Ask Question The scientific method starts when you ask a question about something that you observe: How? What? When? Who? Which? Why? Where? In order for the scientific method to answer the question it must be about something that you can measure.
12
Do Background Research
Research the best way to do things and insure that you don’t repeat mistakes from the past. Library Internet Experts
13
“If ____ (I do this)______, then _____(this)______ will happen.”
Construct Hypothesis A hypothesis is an educated guess about how things work: “If ____ (I do this)______, then _____(this)______ will happen.”
14
Test with an Experiment
Your experiment tests whether your hypothesis is true or false. FAIR TEST-Make sure you change only one factor at a time while keeping the other conditions the same. These are your control and variables. Repeat your experiment several times to make sure that the first results weren’t just an accident.
15
Analyze Results and Draw a Conclusion
Using your data, was your experiment: True Partially True or False
16
Accepting or Rejecting Hypothesis
If your Hypothesis was true you could: Report the results or Test in a new way to make sure If your hypothesis was false you could: Create a new hypothesis and retest
17
LAST STEPS Report Results Go further……… What did you find?
What new questions can you now ask yourself based on what you’ve found?
18
Communicating Results
Final Report and a Display Board Professional scientists do almost the same thing by publishing their final report in a scientific journal or by presenting their results on a poster at a scientific meeting.
