1.7 Functions Objective: Students should be able to identify what the domain and range of a function are. They should know how to determine if something is a function. Finally, students should be able to construct an input/output table and then transfer that into a line graph.
2
Notes Function: relationship between two quantities. Input: domain, x
Input has ONLY one output Output: range, y Output can have many inputs. Functions shown by input / output table.
3
Identifying functions
Input Output 2 10 4 12 6 8 Is the table a function? Why or why not?

Identify functions Input Output 9 8 7 6 Input Output 1 2 3 4
5
Make an input output table. Use 0,1,2,3 as domains
Y = 2x + 5 Y = 4x
6
Make an input output table. Use 0,1,2,3 as domains
Y = 15 - x Y = x + 18

Function tables and graphing
You are at an altitude of 250ft. In a balloon. You turn the burners on and rise 20 feet per minute for 5 minutes. The function is represented below H = t Calculate the input output Create a table Graph the table Identify the domains.

Word Problem - ST You join an aerobics class. The cost is $3 per class plus and initial fee of $10. Write equation shows relationship between number of classes N and amount you pay P. Evaluate equation if n = 1,2,5,8, and 10. organize in input/output table. Display as line graph
