Warm Up, August 26th, 2015 1. In 2007, high levels of bromate—a carcinogen formed when bromide and chlorine react due to sunlight—were found in Los Angeles’s Ivanhoe Reservoir. Today three million black plastic balls help absorb UV rays. The black balls cost about 40 cents each. Tarps and covers were too expensive or time consuming. A carcinogen is any substance, radionuclide, or radiation that is an agent directly involved in causing cancer

Pre-Assessment A Pre-Assessment is a test given after we complete a chapter and before we start a new chapter. It is a measurement of how much information you already know before I teach you, so I know what to cover more thoroughly, and what to skip.

Distance is measured in meters. Mass is measured in grams.
Basic Measurement* Distance is measured in meters. Mass is measured in grams.

Density is measured in grams per milliliter.
Basic Measurements* Volume is measured in centimeters cubed (cm3) for solids and milliliters (mL) for liquids. Density is measured in grams per milliliter.

Kilo = 1000 Deci = 1/10th or 0.1 Centi = 1/100th or 0.01
Basic Measurement* Kilo = Deci = 1/10th or 0.1 Centi = 1/100th or Milli = 1/1000th or

Area (A) = Length x Width Volume (V) = L x W x Height
Basic Measurement* Area (A) = Length x Width Volume (V) = L x W x Height Density (p) = Mass/Volume

Basic Measurement Practice
The length of a football field is 120 meters long and 53 meters wide. Calculate the area. If the same football field was placed in a stadium that was 100 meters high, what would the volume be? If that football stadium has a mass of 700,000 kilograms, what is it’s density? Honors class should convert back to grams/cm^3
