Writing a Satire Identify the topic
Ex. Students being late to class State the problem in hyperbolic terms Ex. The staggering lack of students at the beginning of class leaves teachers paralyzed and dramatically lowers the IQ of the late students. Propose an ironic solution Ex. If late, 1st offense: students must stand outside the door for 20 minutes. 2nd offense: students must carry around a 40lb clock for the rest of the day. 3rd offense: students must go to jail.

Writing a Satire Cont. Use wit (wordplay, clever language, or rhetorical analogies) Ex. Punishment will be doled out in a timely manner. This problem is a ticking time bomb. Downplay the severity of the punishment using understatement. Ex. Missing class and being ridiculed or jailed is a small price to pay to promote punctuality.

Putting it together: It has come to my attention that students have been late to class at an alarming level. The staggering lack of students at the beginning of class leaves teachers paralyzed and dramatically lowers the IQ of the late students. To address this problem, we are adopting a new tardy policy. If students are late, for the 1st offense, they must stand outside the door for 20 minutes. On the 2nd offense, students must carry around a 40lb clock for the rest of the day. For a 3rd offense, students must go to jail. Punishment will be doled out in a timely manner. This problem is a ticking time bomb. Missing class and being ridiculed or jailed is a small price to pay to promote punctuality.
