We are going to review all of the work you did while I was out. Have your papers in the following order. Review of Exploration Vocabulary Chapter 3 paper- “Early Colonies Have Mixed Success” If one is missing get another. You need the information.

1. Colony 2. Monarchy A country or area that is ruled by another country (colonial, colonists) Sentence: The 13 English colonies eventually became the United States of America. A political system ruled by a royal family Sentence: England at the time of colonization was ruled by Queen Elizabeth and was a monarchy.

3. Proprietary Colony 4. Royal Colony
A colony given to an individual (proprietor) by the British monarchy Sentence: North Carolina was a proprietary colony given by King Charles II to eight of his friends. A colony governed directly by the monarchy through a governor and council. Sentence: North Carolina became a Royal colony in 1729 because of all the unrest And conflict.

5. Social Class A group of people within a society who share the same social and economic status Sentence: In the colonies the gentry was the wealthiest social class. Gentry Artisans, craftsmen, merchants Farmers Indentured servants Slaves

6. Indentured Servants Immigrants to North America during the 17th to 19th centuries who contracted to work for an employer in exchange for passage and a place to live Sentence: Many of the first colonists were indentured servants.

The Puritans wanted to purify the Anglican Church of England.

North Carolina’s rivers created Sectionalism and kept the colony from progressing. WEST EAST
