Noun- person, place, thing Singular- one (student) Plural- more than one (students) Possessive Noun- shows ownership (the student’s book) Possessive Singular Noun- add an apostrophe and an s (‘s). NOTE: If a proper noun (name or title) ends in s, add only the apostrophe if an extra s would make it sound awkward. (Odysseus’ journey- not Odysseus’s journey) Possessive Plural Noun- If it ends in s, add only the apostrophe (birds’ nests). If it does not end in s, add `s. (mice’s teeth) Pronoun- takes the place of a noun (him, her, I, we, you…) Possessive Pronoun- do not add an apostrophe- my, mine, his, hers, our, ours, their, theirs, your, yours
