Corrosiveness Of Soda Ashley Rickens

SCIENTIFIC QUESTION What type of soda, (coke, diet pepsi, sprite, mtn. dew) will remove the most tarnish from a penny after ten hours?
3
I chose this because most people drink pop at least once a day
I chose this because most people drink pop at least once a day. I want to figure out what some people put into their bodies on a daily basis. The soda will affect the human teeth the same way it affected the pennies.

HYPOTHESIS If I test which soda (Coke, Diet Pepsi, Sprite, Mtn. Dew)will remove the most tarnish from a penny over a ten hour period, then Coke will have the best result (most tarnish removed)? That was a picture from my real experiment
5
vARIABLES Independent- type of soda- Coke, Diet Pepsi, Sprite, Mountain Dew Dependent- amount of tarnish on a penny Constant- amount of tarnish on dirty pennies (the ones that will be put in the soda)
6
EXPERIMENT PROCEDURE 1- Get 4 sodas (coke, diet pepsi, mountain dew, sprite) 2- find 5 very tarnished pennies, 1 moderately clean penny, and 1 clean penny 3- put one very tarnished penny in each pop bottle 4- leave it sit for 10 hours 5- take out pennies and compare to clean, moderately clean, and very dirty pennies 6- record data
8
During/After the procedure...
During the procedure, I noticed… The clear sodas (Mountain Dew, Sprite) surrounded the penny in tiny bubbles After the procedure, I noticed... The darker sodas (Coke, Diet Pepsi) took off the most tarnish

CONCLUSION My scientific question is: If I test which soda (Coke, Diet Pepsi, Sprite, Mtn. Dew)will remove the most tarnish from a penny over a ten hour period, then Coke will have the best result (most tarnish removed)? I put four dirty pennies in four different kinds of pop and let them sit for 10 hours to find out. In the end, I figured out that Coke was the most corrosive, then Diet Pepsi, Mountain Dew, and Sprite not too far behind. My data supports my hypothesis because I predicted Coke would be the most corrosive, which it was. I learned that Coke is very corrosive, and Sprite isn’t. A problem I had with my lab was that I couldn’t take out all the pennies at the same time..
