Irony A general definition of IRONY:
A contrast or opposition between what happens and what is expected to happen. Usually for a humourous or emphatic response.

Types of Irony Situational Irony - when, in a situation, the exact opposite occurs than what was expected to happen. Ex. Cat chasing a dog; when your English teacher misspells s/t!! Verbal Irony - the exact opposite between what is said and what is meant. Ex. “Beautiful day outside!” When its raining. Dramatic Irony - When the audience knows something that one or more of the characters doesn’t. Ex. the movie Titanic (we know the ship is going to sink).
