mRNA that makes sense in our terms:
Introns and the process of RNA splicing can be illustrated using a text example. Consider the following quotation from Groucho Marx "Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog it's too dark to read.“ To make this text look more like a nucleic acid sequence, we'll simply delete all punctuation and make all of the text uppercase. This will be our "message". With introns (needs to be EDITED)
a single intron were inserted in this sequence, it would look something like this: OUTSIDEOFADOGABOOKISMANSBEGUITUITGLSAJSAKHDLAYSIOEYASHDKLSALKDNKLASNDKLASKGDASJKBDNKNSKDKLSANDKNSKANDKNSAKNDKSAKLDHSDJGJASBDKNSANDLNSMALVJOPDHVANVLNVKLSAKNFADNGKLHKNIUHSAFLSAFLFASFOLSANFLNKFNKDSNGOIFSGHSKDHGKDHSFIABHFIHEHRFKHLKDHSUNSIUANIDAUBIOAYICMUSFAVMASSTFRIENDINSIDEOFADOGITSTOODARKTOREAD

Splicing (editing) mRNA is edited before it goes through translation:
INTRONS ARE REMOVED EXONS ARE LEFT AND ATTACHED TOGETHER PROCESS KNOWN AS SPLICING
4
Translation Bodies make proteins from our genetic information. Transcription and translation together are known as genetic expression or gene expression. Transcription occurs in the nucleus… Translation occurs in the cytoplasm, more specifically in the RIBOSOME.
5
Proteins…what are they?
Proteins are also known as POLYPEPTIDES. They are the active functional units that help our bodies have characteristics and traits. They are made up of AMINO ACIDS. There are 20 amino acids found in our bodies. They are the BUILDING BLOCKS OF PROTEINS. Translation is the process where we use the code in our genes to make these proteins.
6
Translation process… mRNA is bound by proteins and the RNA type called RIBOSOMAL RNA (rRNA). rRNA’s job is to help bond the amino acids to form a polypeptide. It moves 5’ 3’ on the mRNA. tRNA is also known as TRANSFER RNA tRNA’s job is to match up complementary base pairs to the mRNA to place the proper AMINO ACID according to our GENETIC CODE.
7
CODES?! mRNA has a 3 letter CODE that is called a CODON.
tRNA has a 3 letter CODE that is called an ANTICODON. These bases on the two codes are COMPLEMENTARY.
