4 Persuasive Speech-- Organization
Organize your speech in the same way as you organized your persuasive essay. Intro: Hook Background info Modified Position Statement Persuasive Speech-- Organization

5 Organization-- introduction
Your introduction should include 3 or more points/claims you will cover– these are called “signposts.” Ex. People should recycle because it’s good for the environment, it saves money, and it is convenient. Introduce each point in your speech with a transition. It lets your audience know which signpost you are at in your speech. Organization-- introduction

Use sources in your speech, but give credit to them. Ex. “According to an article called ‘Teen Smoking’….” Dr. Sullivan states, “…” This makes your speech sound more credible. Give explanation along with each source you use—this will help the audience to understand your information more. Organization continued

Give a solid conclusion that restates your main points and includes a call to action, requesting your audience to do something. Keep your audience in mind. Organization continued

8 Speech Notes Option #1: Put your main points on flashcards.
Option #2: Write your main points on the top half of a sheet of paper in large font. You will get to use the podium. Speech Notes

9 Stage Presence Stand Tall– don’t lean on the podium or tap your feet.
Speak Clearly– avoid “um’s” and “like’s” and make sure everyone can hear you Don’t speak too quickly or too slowly. Don’t read directly from your notes. Clearly refer to your PowerPoint during the speech. Make eye contact. Above all, PRACTICE!!! Stage Presence

10 Save your PowerPoint on the shared files as well as in a backup location that you can bring with you the day of your speech. Can include important facts, quotes, pictures, or your claims– don’t make it too crowded. Use the presentation to enhance your points– not to do your presentation for you. Can include clear, effective pictures– not pixilated, try to limit yourself to 2-3 pictures maximum per slide. Include a Works Cited slide, if necessary. PowerPoint Tips
