1 Chapter 5 TEST REVIEW

2 Earth’s rotation takes about…
24 hours. A rotation is an objects rotation on its axis. REMEMBER: Earth rotates towards the EAST. The sun rises in the East and sets in the west. That is why California is two hours behind us. earth rotation video clip

3 One complete revolution of Earth around the sun takes about…
days. What happens to the ¼ day? Every 4 years we have a leap year that gives an extra day in February.

4 What happens During a total lunar eclipse?
The moon moves into Earth’s shadow.

5 EQUINOX……. Spring and fall have similar temperatures because they produce similar hours of daylight.
The times when day and night are of equal length are called ____________________.

6 Explain why spring tides are higher than all other tides.
Spring tides are higher than other tides because of the COMBINED gravitational pull of the Moon and Sun working together when they are lined up.

7 For a solar eclipse to occur…
As seen from the Earth, a solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth, and the Moon fully or partially blocks the Sun. This can happen only at new moon, when the Sun and the Moon are in conjunction as seen from Earth. In a total eclipse, the disk of the Sun is fully obscured by the Moon. In partial and annular eclipses only part of the Sun is obscured. ALWAYS wear SPECIAL eye protection designed specifically for looking at the sun if you plan on looking at the sun or a solar eclipse. Looking at the sun un/underprotected can result in BLINDNESS.

8 Phases of the moon….

9 TILT Seasons on Earth are caused by the ________ of Earth’s axis as Earth revolves around the sun.
