5 Hyperbole Deliberate exaggeration or overstatement for emotional effect

6 Rhythm and repetition “You want to hear the benefits of fair trade? Food is cheaper, clothes are cheaper, steel is cheaper, cars are cheaper, phone service is cheaper” A list of similar ideas, linked together in a similar structure to create a flow when spoken or read.

7 Opposites “It lowers prices and it raises income”
Toby uses this to link two similar benefits in a style which looks like a contrast. This idea of opposites, or contrast, can be used to great effect in persuasive writing.

8 “End with the one that’s not like the others”
“Free trade stops wars” End a series of linked points with an opposite. This adds emphasis to your argument. It creates the same impression as having the last word.
