Hyperbole Deliberate exaggeration or overstatement for emotional effect

Rhythm and repetition “You want to hear the benefits of fair trade? Food is cheaper, clothes are cheaper, steel is cheaper, cars are cheaper, phone service is cheaper” A list of similar ideas, linked together in a similar structure to create a flow when spoken or read.

Opposites “It lowers prices and it raises income”
Toby uses this to link two similar benefits in a style which looks like a contrast. This idea of opposites, or contrast, can be used to great effect in persuasive writing.

“End with the one that’s not like the others”
“Free trade stops wars” End a series of linked points with an opposite. This adds emphasis to your argument. It creates the same impression as having the last word.
