KKK Klan violence was reaching an all time high in the early 1900’s
1920 saw a sudden collapse when a congressional investigation became into the financial aspects of the Klan Discrimination of blacks continued but not with the organized Klan members

Emergency Quota Act of 1921- 3% of an nationality living in U.S. in 1910 were allowed into the country into any given year Immigration Act of 1924 Quotas were cut to 2% and the quotas were taken from 1890

Prohibition 18th amendment made the buying, selling and/or making of alcohol illegal in the U.S. Southerners and westerners loved the law Southerners wanted to keep alcohol out of the hands of blacks Westerners saw alcohol as the one vice associated with the saloon: drunkenness, prostitution, corruption, and crime

American spirit came out of prohibition Government control over private life has never gone over well A few things came from prohibition: Speakeasies Underground saloons Bathtube gin and homebrew
