Multiple storylines Includes the plot (main storyline) and subplots (other stories that add to the story / tv show).

Cause and effect One event starts the story which causes something else to happen. (effect)

character Characters are introduced/established then they are developed. There are also relationships between characters and character motivations – what drives them. (power, love, money, etc)

Mise en scene French word meaning ‘everything in the shot’ refers to visual composition How props, actors lighting, etc is used in a shot.

lighting can be bright (high key) or dark & shadowy (low key). It can also be used to tell the audience about characters.

sound Music, dialogue & sound effects. It can be:
diegetic – sounds the characters can hear non-diegetic sounds the audience can hear but the characters can’t. Sad music during a break up scene.
