The State Hermitage is a museum of world culture. Around three million items in its stocks make it one of the biggest collections anywhere. Its buildings and halls, created in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, provide fine examples of the artistic styles of different periods.

The St George Hall was designed in the Classical style by Giacomo Quarenghi, who also created the Hermitage Theatre and the Raphael Loggias, a reproduction of a gallery in the Vatican.
