Has the Second Coming Already Come?
The AD 70 doctrine teaches that the second coming of Christ occurred when Jerusalem was destroyed in 70 A.D. A few have accepted this teaching and its broad ramifications for interpreting Scripture. This lesson exposes some of the fundamental errors of the AD 70 doctrine. 2 Timothy 2:15-18
2
The A.D. 70 Doctrine (a.k.a. Realized Eschatology, Max King Doctrine)
This false doctrine asserts the following: In the period from the Cross to A.D. 70, two covenants existed simultaneously (cf. Gal. 4) The Second Coming of Christ occurred in A.D. 70 at the destruction of Jerusalem The Resurrection occurred in A.D. 70 The End of the World occurred in A.D. 70 The Final Judgment of God occurred in A.D. 70 All NT books were written before 70 AD.
3
The Truth about The Covenants -- they DID NOT COEXIST
The Old Covenant was nullified as the New Covenant was established The cross invalidated and removed the Old Law (Colossians 2:14) The New Covenant made the Old obsolete (Hebrews 8:13; Romans 7:1-6) Christ made peace between Jews and Gentiles in His death, not in 70 A.D. (Ephesians 2:13-18)
4
The Truth About the Second Coming -- IT HAS NOT HAPPENED!
The destruction of Jerusalem and the Second Coming of Christ are SEPARATE EVENTS in Matthew 24 Jerusalem’s destruction would coincide with the appearance of the “abomination of desolations” (24:4-22) Christ WOULD NOT come personally then (24:23-26) When Christ comes, it will be evident to all (24:27) The overthrow of a nation would be complete (24:29, cf. Isaiah 13:10; 34:4-5; Ezekiel 32:7-8) This would be a sign of Christ’s power (24:30-31) Men could KNOW when Jerusalem would be destroyed, and it would be soon (24:33-34). No one KNOWS when Jesus will return (24:36-37)
5
The truth about the Resurrection -- WE YET AWAIT IT!
All who are Christ’s will be resurrected and made alive at His coming (1 Cor. 15:20-23) The whole creation awaits with us for the redemption of our body (Romans 8:23) No marriage and no death after the resurrection! (Luke 20:34-36) The Pharisees and Paul both looked for the same kind of resurrection (Acts 24:15)
6
The Truth about The End of the World -- WE'RE STILL HERE!
2 Peter 3:5-11 The A.D. 70 advocates try to make the heavens and earth which meet a fiery end, the Jewish economy. But the truth is… The world which was overflowed with water is now stored up for fire. This fiery judgment shall occur on "the day of the Lord" and at His "coming." The world of Noah's time actually flooded. The world which now exists will actually be destroyed with fire! If this verse had been fulfilled in 70 A.D., none of us would be here!

The truth about the Final Judgment -- THE DEAD WILL YET BE JUDGED!
"The Day of the Lord" is a phrase used throughout Scripture to refer to the execution of God’s wrath on a nation or peoples (e.g. Joel 1:15; 2:1, 11). But the Bible teaches of another day of judgment that is universal and individual (Eccl. 12:13-14; Matthew 12:36; Romans 14:10; Corinthians 5:10; Matthew 25:31-46; Hebrews 9:27-28; John 5:28-29; 2 Timothy 4:8).
