Proportions Proportions are mostly known as a part of a whole. Also it can be used as a verb, to adjust or regulate so that it has a suitable relationship to something else.

Examples of Proportions
A fraction or a percentage are considered parts of a whole because the numerator is a certain quantity of the denominator. Ex: ½, 5/9, 55%

Proportions in Life Proportions can be used in everyday life to, for example, to find the price of one bottle of milk when you buy four bottles for $5.74. Or if you are giving someone your money and you want to know how much money out of the money you had before you gave it to him/her you use proportions. And you can use it in graphs like a pie graph.

Usage of the Pie Graph Pie graphs are used to show proportions. Each area in the graph contains a portion of a whole, and if you add all the portions, you get the sum of all the portions, or the whole.

Example of pie graph In the pie graph below, it shows the population of the states that can be added up to make one big population of the country.
