They ensure the people they work with are meaningfully involved in the development, design and delivery of the project.
Strengths based
They support people and communities to build on the knowledge, skills and experience they already have to make the changes they want.
Connected
They demonstrate a good understanding of other activities and services in the community and can show how the project will complement these.

4. Our support for communities
Under £10,000
National Lottery Awards for All - our most popular
funding stream, providing a quick and simple way to get small Lottery grants of between £300 and £10,000.
Over £10,000
We provide long-term support to single organisations through Reaching Communities, to help communities take action on the issues that matter to them.
We support organisations to work together through our Partnerships funding, inspiring joint action that goes beyond what any single organisation can achieve alone.

Do you have required governance in place (can you contract with us)?
Are your activities suitable and do they deliver our priorities?
Are your costs eligible?
Can you start / complete your activities in the required timescale?

9. Why is providing evidence of need so important
Why is providing evidence of need so important? or How you demonstrate that the issues and barriers facing the people and communities you support are important?
High demand for limited resources
Prove that you understand the community and their needs
Prove that you haven’t made assumptions
Shows the scale of the issues your services will address
Prove why your delivery model is the best way of meeting the need you have identified

Is other work being done to support the people you plan to help?
Does it fill a gap locally?
Does it support local priorities?
Are there any similar activities in your area?
What has Big Lottery Fund funded in your area already?

11. Gather information to support your case
Talk to the people you plan to help and involve them in the design of the services you provide, not just the people you already work with.
Involve stakeholders – e.g. schools, doctors, parents, community representatives, local Council
Build your evidence – e.g. surveys, focus groups, results of pilot projects
You will need to show us that your project is needed, supported and will make a difference!

Start by really ensuring you understand what is important to the people you are aiming your activities at.
Explore what skills and talents they can bring to your idea and make sure these are at the core of your application
Ensure all parts of your idea or project outline builds on and support each other
Get a ‘critical friend’ to review your idea or project outline before sharing this with us.
If not successful first time, ask for feedback, apply this and try again!
