1 Latitude and Longitude
Lesson 10.7 Latitude and Longitude pp

2 Objectives: 1. To define latitude and longitude as a means of global positioning. 2. To identify cities and countries given their latitude and longitude. 3. To relate terms on a sphere to global positioning via latitude and longitude.

3 International Date Line Greenwich, England equator prime meridian

4 Northern Hemisphere

5 Southern Hemisphere

6 Eastern Hemisphere

7 Western Hemisphere

8 longitudinal lines

9 longitudinal lines ALL longitudinal lines are great circles!

10 latitudinal lines Latitudinal lines are not congruent!

11 All longitudinal lines are great circles
All longitudinal lines are great circles. The equator is the only latitudinal line that is a great circle.

12 Latitude is the degree measure of the arc from the equator to a particular location.
Longitude is measured according to degree measure east or west from the prime meridian.

13 International Date Line west east equator prime meridian Greenwich,
England east west equator

14 International Date Line north equator south prime meridian Greenwich,
England south north equator
