1 Question 1

2 Question 1 Triangle ABC on this coordinate grid was created by joining points A (3, 2), B (4, 5) and C (7, 3) with line segments. Triangle ABC was reflected over the x-axis and then reflected over the y-axis to form the red triangle, where x, y, and z represent the lengths of the sides of the red triangle. Click the appropriate boxes in the table to show which sides of the triangle have equal lengths.

3 X Y Z AB AC BC A B C A B C The students need to pay attention to how the transformations moved along the page. First, it says it was reflected over the x-axis (the horizontal axis). That means it was flipped upside. When this happens, A is now the point on top and B is the bottom point. The second transformation is a reflection over the y-axis (the vertical axis). This means that it is flipped like a mirror image. A is still the top point with B as the bottom most part. Following the transformation, you can see that the x line is really AC; the y line is really BC; and the z line is really AB. In my powerpoint, I’ve added the first flip and the letters on the triangle to help them solve it. And the second flip and answers too!
