Do Now 12/3-4 Create a vocabulary reference page for Unit 4
Copy the following: Epi- Hypo- Derm- Serous membrane- Mucous membrane- Synovial membrane- Use your background knowledge and book to define these vocabulary words.

Unit 3 Test No test corrections, so why should we reflect on what we missed? These questions will likely be on the final and on the CAST test! Unlike prior years the CAST now counts for 20% of your second semester grade.

Types of Membranes Serous: line body cavities that are not open to the surface (thorax, abdomen). Keep things in place, lubricate. Mucous: line body cavities that open to the surface (nasal, oral, digestive, urinary, reproductive). Lubricate, trap and prevent the entry of objects.

Types of Membranes Synovial: inner lining of joints. Produce fluids to lubricate the joints. Cutaneous: skin

Three layers of cutaneous membrane:
Epidermis: Top layer. Stratified squamous. Protection. Indents of it make hair and nails.

Cutaneous Membrane Dermis: Middle layer, largest layer. Sweat glands, oil glands. Hypodermis: Bottom layer. Loose connective and adipose tissue. Insulation, house major blood vessels.

Group Practice Hand signals: Serous Mucous Synovial Cutaneous
Protects body from external elements. Lubricates your soft organs Protects the body from external elements which enter the bodies orifices. Trap the entry of foreign objects. Lubricates the knee joint.

Independent Practice Two Part Project: 1. Diagram and label the layers of the skin. Remember if this is colored you will be more likely to reference it in the future. 2. You must write a poem or a song to help you remember the four types of membranes and the three layer of skin.
