2. How does it work?
The MakerBot Replicator 2 makes solid, three-dimensional objects out of melted MakerBot PLA Filament.
Your 3D design files are translated into instructions for the MakerBot Replicator 2 and sent to the machine via USB cable or SD Card.
Then the MakerBot Replicator 2 heats the MakerBot PLA Filament and squeezes it out through a nozzle to make a solid object layer by layer.
This method is called Fused Filament Fabrication [FFF].

The system of rods and belts that supports and moves the step struder where the cooling fan and extruder is housed.

6. LCD & Keypad
The LCD window displays directions and allows for easy knowledge on selections made by the keypad.
The keypad consists of four arrow buttons that surround a central “M” button. The arrows are used to navigate through the LCD menus and make selections. A solid red M means the MakerBot is working. A blinking red M means the MakerBot waiting for user input.

10. Build Platform & Build Plate
The Build Plate is where the blue tape is attached and the actual part is printed – it must be leveled before printing.
The Build Platform supports the Build Plate.

The filament tube starts back by the spool and leads the filament up above the Makerbot 2 and down into the extruder head.

The extruder cable starts in the back of the Makerbot 2 and goes up and over the bot next to the filament guide tube and then into the extruder.

15. Extruder
The extruder assembly houses a fan, a heater and the extruder head through which the super heated filament comes through and creates your part.

The filament spool is on the back of the Makerbot 2 and is held to the machine by the spool holder (which is in the center of the spool).
