How they contributed to the Atomic Structure Theory..

2 Democritus *Lived in Abdera from 460-370 BC
*First to suggest the existence of atoms *Believed that atoms were indivisible and indestructible. *Democritus' ideas agreed with later scientific theory. *They did not explain chemical behavior though. *There was no experimental support his ideas because it was not based on the scientific method.

3 Aristotle Lived in Greece from 384-322 BC
Believed that the smallest parts were made of four elements Elements.. earth, air, fire, and water The idea of atoms were not mentioned for the next 2,000 years after Aristotle

4 Democritus six main points
All matter consists of INVISIBLE PARTICLES… called atoms Atoms are INDESTRUCTIBLE & UNCHANGEABLE A VOID (empty space) exists between atoms Atoms are SOLID Atoms are HOMOGENEOUS.. (no internal structure) Atoms DIFFER in size, shape, mass, position, and arrangement
