What Is a Teaching Philosophy
“A music educator's philosophy determines the meaning and purpose of his or her chosen career. “ What is important about music education? Why is music a valuable part of each student's education? Three elements to creating a personal philosophy

Environment Is music important to education? If so, why? If not, why not? Why does music exist in the public schools?

Vision What classes or ensembles would be offered?
What would the setting or classroom be like? What should be taught? Repertoire? Experiences? Activities? What should students learn about music?

Values May be the most personal of the three points.
Connected to the beliefs of what is important in a music system. What is most important in music education? What does one value? What is the value of music and what is most important and unique to music? Music literacy? Listening? Performance? Creativity?
