The Nile Egypt would not have existed without the Nile.
The Nile was the lifeblood of Egypt. The yearly floods provided the nutrients to grow crops.

Egyptian Government In Egypt, their kings were gods – known as pharaohs. A theocracy is a government by religious laws and practices. It is also the type of government in which the ruler is a divine figure. Egyptians believed that their kings even ruled after their deaths.

Gods of the Egyptians The Egyptians were polytheistic, meaning they believed in many gods. The most important gods were Ra, the sun god, and Horus, the god of light. The goddess that was most important was Isis, who represented the ideal mother and wife.

Death in Egypt Egyptians believed in an afterlife.
They believed that Osiris, the powerful god of the dead, would weigh each dead person’s heart. To win eternal life, the heart could be no heavier than a feather. They also had a book called the Book of the Dead. The text consists of a number of magic spells intended to assist a dead person's journey through the Duat, or underworld, and into the afterlife.

Famous People of Egypt Cleopatra: the Queen of Egypt during Julius Caesar's reign. Ramses II: Ramses the Great. A powerful and influential Pharaoh of Egypt. He kept the Egyptian empire together and had many temples built.

Hieroglyphics Hieroglyphics was the writing system that was used by the Egyptians. Through these writings we can recreate a picture of their culture.
