Learning Intention: Students will learn the significance of metaphors and how they are used to give an effect on a particular piece of writing, i.e. narrative and poetry. Success Criteria: Students will create their own metaphors and write a short poem or narrative using these metaphors. A simile is where two things are directly compared because they share a common feature. The word “AS” or “LIKE” is used to compare the two words. E.g. As cold AS a dog's nose A metaphor also compares two things, but it does so more directly WITHOUT using “as” or “like”. E.g. The shop was a little gold-mine.

Now you are going to make up similes and metaphors of your own, here is an example of a simile.
