2 Ernest Hemingway His heroes are often wounded both physically and psychologically Hemmingway was wounded many times in life: war knee injury, car crashes, airplane crashes, shooting accidents, and fires. Hemmingway’s life resembled the lives of his fictional characters

3 Literary Terms Protagonist – The main character who initiates the story’s action. Hero – Responds to challenges with courage and self-sacrifice Not all protagonists are heroes. Antihero – Gives into disillusionment, hopelessness, and inaction.

Identify Krebs’s feelings, attitudes, and views on the following topics: The war His return home His family Other people His hometown His future

5 Activity Character Analysis
Write a character profile of Krebs, using the notes you took as you read the story. Be sure to support your analysis of Krebs with details from the story. In your analysis, identify Krebs as either a hero or an antihero. Use specific examples from the story to support your thoughts. Write your essay using the five paragraph essay style.
