Choose one of the poems from the packet (except for Whitman’s “Vigil Strange”). You may use “Utilitarian” if you want, but you must make your observations. Using this PowerPoint as a template and do the following: Paraphrase – 5 points Close read and make observations – 12 points Comment on 2 clues that tell you this is a poem specifically from the nineteenth-century (and even more specifically, from the period of Civil War and its aftermath). What kinds of clues are they? How specifically can you date the poem, based on these clues? Are there any details, on the other hand, that seem to transcend historical period? – 4 points
