Monologue “The person you are is a thousand times more interesting than the best actor you could ever hope to be”—Stanislavsky
2
Monologue monologue - a speech presented by a single character, usually in a movie or play, most often to express their thoughts aloud
3
Analyzing a scene Ask yourself three questions:
1. What is the character literally doing? 2. What is the character’s essential goal? 3. What is the action like to me? (It’s as if…)
4
What is the character literally doing?
Your task is to find one thing the character is doing during the entire scene. Rocky is trying to inspire confidence in his son.
5
What is your character’s essential goal?
To steer his son away from his past mistakes.
6
What is the action like to me? (It’s as if…)
Helps give the actor a fuller understanding of the action he/she has chosen. It’s as if I’m trying to help my friend Mark quit choosing bad influences in his life. To make him listen, I first had to show him all the positives in his life he had to live for.
