5. What happened? The US attacked Afghanistan after the 9/11 attacks.
Since 1996, bin Laden was running terrorist training camps with the Taliban Govt.’s permission.
The goal of the US was:
1. Get the Taliban out of power
2. Find Osama bin Laden
3. Destroy al-Qaeda

6. Outcome
The Taliban was removed from power, but they continue to try and regain power.
Osama bin Laden was killed in May 2011 by US Navy Seals. He was hiding in Pakistan.
Al-Qaeda was weakened, but is still around.
The terrorist training camps were shut down.
