2 Warm-Up: Tuesday, November 18
PAGE 270 Objective: To do a "test run" of book clubs before doing the real thing on Thursday. Question: What symbols are there in “Eleven” by Sandra Cisneros?

3 Lit Circle Worksheets Take 25 Minutes to finish (or attempt to finish) your worksheet for the role that you have chosen for today’s Literature Circles.

4 Focus Questions: For Discussion Directors:
What kind of person do you think Rachel is? What do you think Rachel values based off of her actions?

5 Before Starting While other group members are talking, take notes on what they say on PAGE 271.

6 Literature Circles, Part I
Discussion Director: Discuss “Eleven”’s two focus questions. Review your three vocabulary words. Have other group members copy down the words and definitions on their vocabulary list. (5 Minutes)

7 Literature Circle, Part II
Summarizer: Read your summary to your group. As a group, decide upon which three events to include in the storyboard. (3 Minutes)

8 Literature Circles, Part III
Investigator: Share your character profile for Rachel. As a group, decide upon which three details belong on the character profile. (3 Minutes)

9 Literature Circles, Part IV
Connector: Share passages from “A. Passages on author’s style.” As a group, decide on which three literary devices should go on the Author Style Page. (3 Minutes)

10 Literature Circles, Part V
Connector: Share your theme chart with your group. As a group, decide on which literary three devices should be added to the theme page. (3 Minutes)

11 Literature Circles, Part VI
Discussion Director: Ask each member of the group for comments/questions regarding the short story. (2 Minutes)

12 Literature Circles, Part VII
Discussion Director: Fill out the Group Record Sheet, with input from every group member. (5 Minutes) Mr. Zhao will collect this today; this is your exit slip.

13 Signing Up for a Book Your group will either sign up to read House on Mango Street, by Sandra Cisneros, or The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, by Sherman Alexie. Everyone in your group is going to read the same book.

14 Homework: Due Thursday
Read pages 1-25 in House on Mango Street OR pages 1-53 in Part-Time Indian. Finish your Literature Circle worksheet for your book.
