Urinary System Cells produce waste that can become toxic if they accumulate the urinary system is responsible for eliminating liquid waste. Renal – medical term for kidneys

2 Function The purpose of this system is to:
the urinary system removes salts and nitrogenous wastes maintains normal concentration of water and electrolytes maintains pH, controls red blood cell production and blood pressure

3 Terms Comparison of internal environment of cell to solution
Isotonic - concentration are equal in and out. Hypertonic - concentration outside is greater than inside. Hypotonic - concentration inside is greater than outside.

4 Solutions Uniform mixtures of two or mores substances. They may be solids, liquids, gases, or a combination. Solute - dissolved substance. Solvent - substance that solute is dissolved in. ie salt=solute, water=solvent

5 Urinary System This system includes: consists of a pair of kidneys
ureters urinary bladder expandable structure with transitional epithelial cells that change shape to allow for expansion and contraction. urethra
