2. Using the Infinitive as a Direct Object
You have already learned how to translate infinitives. Remember: an infinitive ends in –re and means “to” + verb.
portare: to carry
iubere: to order
docere: to teach
discedere: to go away
laborare: to work
amare: to love
eram
erat
eras
eramus
erant
eratis

3. Using the Infinitive Infinitives can be used as subjects.
Docere linguam Latinam est gaudium.
To teach Latin is fun.
Errare est humanum.
To err is human.

Infinitives can also be used as direct objects.
Viros discedere iussi.
iussi: I ordered (new word! from iubeo)
viros: men (from vir, viri --- it’s accusative)
discedere: to leave
I ordered the men to leave.

Me laborare non cupivisti.
me: me
laborare: to work
non: not
cupivisti: you wanted/did want (cupio + isti)
You did not want me to work.
