1 Which Punic War? (1, 2 or 3) In this Punic war, the Romans burned every building in Carthage and spread salt into their fields so nothing could grow. In this Punic war, the Carthaginians used elephants to cross the snowy Alps and invaded Rome from the north. This Punic War was fought over who controlled the island of Sicily and ended with the Carthaginians leaving Sicily peacefully. General Hannibal Barca is remembered as one of the best generals in ancient history for his role in this Punic War. This Punic war ended when Rome gained control of Spain and all its valuable resources like cooper, gold, lead and iron. Most of this Punic war was fought at sea and the Romans lost many ships and men during these naval battles
