2. Biography
Mary Anderson was born in 1866 in Greene Country Alabama. She invented the windshield wiper. Her idea came to her on a streetcar on her way to New York from Alabama. She saw the driver had to keep on stopping to wipe the window from snow and rain. She started working on her idea for a windshield wiper in the streetcar. She died in 1953.

3. Invention
Mary Anderson is known for inventing the windshield wiper. She was on her way to New York from Alabama when her idea hit her. At first people said the windshield wiper was useless and would distract the driver. The first windshield wiper was made of wood with a rubber blade that the driver activated using a lever. It could be removed after winter since there wouldn’t be anymore snow or rain. In Mary Anderson received a patent for her invention. In 1960 windshield wipers were standard on most vehicles.
