Step 1: Identify the problem What do you need to do to Identify the problem?
Ask yourself What is the problem that you are trying to solve?

Step 2: Research the Problem What do you need to do to research the problem?
Examine Background Information about the problem That will help Aid in Developing a Hypothesis.

Step 3: Form a Hypothesis What is a Hypothesis?
A possible explanation that can be tested by observation or experimentation. HYPOTHESES ARE NOT GUESSES How do you structure a hypothesis? Compose an “If….Then….” statement.

Step 4: Test the Hypothesis What 3 things are done to test a hypothesis?
1. List Materials 2. Outline a Procedure for the experiment. 3. Collect Data.

Step 5: Draw Conclusions When making a conclusion what do you need to ask yourself?
“Was my hypothesis an accurate prediction?” What do you need to base your conclusion off of? Base your conclusions on your Experimental Data.

What are the 5 Steps of the scientific method?:
Identify the Problem. Research the Problem & Make Observations. Form a Hypothesis. Design an Experiment to test the Hypothesis. Draw Conclusions.

What are controlled Scientific Experiments?
A procedure that tests one factor at a time and that uses a control group and an experimental group. Control Group- is the part of the experiment that receives NO TREATMENT. Experimental Group- this group receives treatment Independent Variable- is a factor that can be varied or manipulated in an experiment Dependent Variable- is what you measure in the experiment and what is affected during the experiment.

What is the difference between a Scientific Theory and a Hypothesis?
A hypothesis is a specific, testable prediction for a limited set of conditions and a theory is a general explanation for a broad range of data and evidence. What is needed to Construct a Theory? Requires testing and retesting. Requires extremely large amounts of data.

What is Scientific Law? A conclusive and universal truth, that explains why events occur. Example: gravity
