2. Lab Safety: Everyone is Responsible!
Scientists know that when working in the laboratory, it is very important to follow safety procedures. The most important safety rule is to always follow your teacher’s directions or the directions in your textbook exactly.
Make sure you have read each rule and direction carefully, making sure you understand each rule. If you do not understand a rule, ask your teacher to explain it.

This symbol means that you are working with glassware.
Eye and Face Safety
This symbols means that you are performing an experiment in which you must take precautions
to protect your eyes
and face by wearing
safety goggles.
Fire Safety
This symbol means
that you are working
with fire. Never use any source of fire without wearing safety goggles.
Sharp Instrument Safety
This symbol means that you are working with a sharp instrument.

This symbol means that you should put on heat resistant gloves to avoid burning your hands.

that you are

electricity in the

with chemicals that
