3. WHY ARE WE DOING THIS?
Grant funding requirements mandate collection of data regarding implementation in project classrooms
External evaluator observations in classrooms have three problems:
Expense
Small sample
No opportunity to review the data once collected or to use it to demonstrate project effectiveness
We are looking for a cost effective approach to document what’s happening in project classrooms

4. WHAT WE WANT TO KNOW
Is it possible for teachers to produce high quality video clips of classroom lessons?
What benefits do teachers see in using this kind of information?
Do teachers report greater satisfaction with their lessons over time?

5. WHAT HAVE WE LEARNED?
During we conducted a pilot with 12 Wayne County teachers.
We learned that:
it is difficult to hear student talk
we only need short clips, not entire lessons
It is possible to watch and reliably score teacher-made video clips

6. THIS YEAR’S PLAN Increase the size of the sample
Specify clearly what we are looking for in the clips
Improve audio quality
Collect data on how teachers perceive their lessons
Collect pre-mid-post data for comparison

7. CONFIDENTIALITY, PERMISSIONS
We will be very careful to guarantee the confidentiality of the data
We will not use your clips for any purpose other than as part of the aggregated data set without your written permission.
Clips will not be viewed beyond the evaluation team without your permission
Student confidentiality must be assured

8. AUDIO APPS For Android phones:
For iPhones : free (Dragon recorder)
NOTE: The Android audio app is $3.99; submit the receipt with your invoice accompanying your May 31 clip and rating sheet

9. HOW TO SUBMIT YOUR CLIPS
Due dates: January 31, March 31, May 31
Submit rating sheet using the 8 Practices Rubric.
The following methods can be used to get your files to us:
Google drive (send me the link)
PLEASE DO NOT USE YouTube!

10. BENEFITS OF PARTICIPATION
Contribute to the effort to improve data collection procedures
Receive a stipend of $340
Receive a video camera and tripod
Help demonstrate the effectiveness of PRIME for future funding
