1 Review for Chapter 3 test
What are the ways in which scientists get rock samples from inside the earth? What is the correct order of the Earths layers? What is conduction? What is radiation? What is convection? How is a rock’s texture determined? When grains in a rock are easy to see this is called coarse grained. IF they are small this is fine grained What is a scientific theory? An igneous rock commonly used for buildings is? How is metamorphic rock made? Metamorphic rocks that do not split into layers are ___________ What is deposition? What step in the rock cycle changes granite into sandstone? What is the rock cycle? How does the convection current in the Earth work? Coal is what type of rock? What stone is the white house made out of? What rock type forms when small particles of rocks or the remains of plants and animals are pressed and cemented together? What is clastic rock? What is plate tectonics?

2 Drilling and Rock which comes out of volcanoes, caves, mines, Earthquakes
CLAMOI (Crust, Lithosphere, Asthenosphere, Mesosphere, Outer Core and Inner Core When heat is transferred by two things touching. Like a pot sitting on a burner Heat moving through waves, like heat from the sun When hot air/liquid rises mixing with cooler liquid which sinks…. You get a circular pattern The size, shape and pattern of the rocks grains When grains in a rock are easy to see this is called coarse grained. IF they are small this is fine grained A well tested explanation for a wide range of observations or experiments. Granite When placed under extreme heat and pressure within the Earth Non-foliated When sediment settles out of the wind and water that carried it Granite particles would have to settle on the bottom of a lake or ocean A series of processes on and within the Earth that slowly changes rocks from one kind to another. Hotter, less dense rock rises and cooler, more dense rock sinks Organic rock Sandstone which is sedimentary Sedimentary Sedimentary rock that forms when pieces are squeezed together The theory that Earths outer layer is broken into pieces that move slowly over the surface.
