2
Mouth Definition: It is the opening in the lower part of the human face, surrounded by the lips. Food is taken in by there. speech and other sounds are emitted by it. -the mouth contains organs such as teeth, tongue and the ducts of salivary glands. These organs work together to ingest and digest the food. -It is where the digesting process begins.
3
Stomach Definition: -The stomach is a J-Shaped muscular sac located between the esophagus (which is a long tube between your mouth and the stomach) and the small intestine, that is also part of the digestive system. Function: -absorbs food -turns it into a consistency, making it easier to digest for the rest of your intestines. -Releases acids and enzymes that break down the food in a chemical way. -It then releases the food into the small intestines in an organized manner.
4
What are Intestines -They are small muscular tubes that allows food and the products of digestion to go from the end of your stomach to your anus. -They are divided into two sections: *large intestine *small intestine
5
Small Intestine -it does a big job even though it is very narrow
-it is made up of three segments. these three segments form a passage from your stomach to your large intestine -by the time food reaches this intestine, it has already been turned into a semi-solid sludge by your stomach. Bye the time it leaves to go to the large intestine, the mixture is quite watery. -The small intestine absorbs almost all of the nutrients you get from foods In your bloodstream.
6
Large Intestine -5 feet long, broad
-it absorbs water and salts from the material that has not been digested as food. -It gets rid of any waste products left over -what is left after that is fiber, dead cells, salt, bile pigments and water. In the large intestines, bacteria feed on this mixture.
7
Fun Facts -the large intestine is actually shorter than the small intestine. -in an adult, the small intestine measures about 16 feet and is about 1-2 inches in diameter. -when you blush, the lining of your stomach also turns red!!! -At least 12 hours are needed to completely digest the food we ate.
