2. Independent Events
If two events are independent, that means the outcome of the first event DOES NOT affect the probability of the second event.
Events are most often considered independent when replacement occurs.
The probability of 2 independent events BOTH occurring is the product of their probabilities.
P ( A and B ) = P ( A ) * P ( B )

3. Example #1
A coin is flipped and a die is rolled. Find the probability of getting a head and a 4.

4. Example #2
A card is drawn from a deck and replaced; then a 2nd card is drawn Find the probability of getting a queen and an ace.

5. Example #3
A paper bag contains 5 blue, 9 red, and 3 green marbles. 3 are drawn, one at a time with replace. What is the probability of getting 2 green and 1 red?

6. Dependent Events
Two events are dependent when the occurrence of the first event affects the probability of the 2nd.
Non-replacement event.
With non-replacement, the sample space changes with each event.

7. Example #1
A person owns a collection of 30 CD’s, 5 of which are country. If 3 CD’s are chosen at random, find the probability that all are country.

8. Example #2 Three cards are drawn from a deck and not replaced.
A) Find P (3J)
B) Find P (AKA)
C) Find P (CSH)

9. Example #3
A paper bag contains 5 blue, 9 red, and 3 green marbles. 3 marbles are drawn, one at a time without replacement. What is the probability of getting 2 green and 1 red marble?
