1 Relationship between Pressure and Volume in Gasses.
Boyle’s Law Relationship between Pressure and Volume in Gasses.

2 STP STP means Standard Temperature and Pressure
It’s the usual temperature and pressure of a lab, classroom, house etc. Standard Temperature is 273K Standard Pressure is 1atm or 760torr

3 What do “Constant” and “Initial” mean?
Constant means the same or unchanging. Example: The temperature is constant Means “The temperature is the same” Initial means starting or beginning. Initial Temperature means ‘Starting’ temperature.

4 What does Inversely Proportional mean?
Inversely Proportional means as one variable goes up, the other variable goes down. Inversely Proportional means OPPOSITE As the cost of cars goes up, the demand for cars goes down. As the cost of iphones goes down, demand for iphones went up.

5 What is Boyle’s Law? The volume of a gas changes inversely as the pressure of the gas if the temperature remains constant. As the volume increases, pressure decreases. As the volume decreases, pressure increases.

6 Formula for Boyle’s Law
P1V1 = P2V2

7 Solve For Initial Pressure (P1)
A 5L balloon at an unknown initial pressure expands to 6L at 500 torr. What is the initial pressure?

8 Solve for Initial Volume (V1)
A balloon is at 250 torr. The volume decreases to 35L when the pressure is 500 torr. What was the initial volume of the balloon?

9 Solve for Final Pressure (P2)
A bike tire has an initial volume of 5L when the pressure is 150 torr. What is the final pressure if the final volume is 7.5L?

10 Solve for Final Volume (V2)
A car tire has an initial volume of 35L and an initial pressure of 750 torr. What is the final volume when the pressure decreases to 600 torr?
