Young Adulthood When do you become an adult?
Certain birthday? Financially independent? When you marry? When you are physically mature? 18 for some activities and 21 for others Physically and emotionally adulthood is not a certain number of years.

Young Adulthood You will change physically and emotionally during the transition between adolescence and adulthood. Changes will continue throughout the rest of your life.

Physical Maturity The state of being full-grown in the physical sense.
All of your body systems are fully developed and you are as tall as you will ever be.

Physical Maturity To stay at your physical peak:
Maintain a healthy diet Avoid tobacco and other drugs Exercise regularly Get adequate sleep Have a regular medical and dental checkups

Emotional Maturity Full development in the emotional sense.
Continues to develop through adulthood. 3 major factors that contribute to emotional maturity: Developing close relationships with others Giving back to society Learning to accept yourself for who you are

Emotional Maturity Begin to establish close relationships outside of your family. More likely to form long lasting friendships than you are now as an adolescent. You will have a better sense of who you are, and be better able to choose friends with interests and values similar to your own. Emotional intimacy is the openness, sharing, affection, and trust that can develop in a close relationship.

Start thinking, planning, and preparing now for your life’s work. Know what skills, education, and training are necessary to achieve your goals. How much money do you plan to make?

Often people mistake love as sexual attraction or short-lived crushes. Real love is part of a long-lasting relationship in which people really know, like, and accept each other as they are. When you love someone, his/her well-being becomes as important to you as your own.
