What is a resource? Something that helps us to achieve a goal or fulfill a function. Three types Natural Capital Human

Natural Resources Materials that can be found in nature and used to make a profit. Renewable natural resources Any resource that can replace itself within a relatively short period of time (human scale). Example: Corn Non-Renewable natural resources Resources that take millions of years to develop. Example: Mineral Resources

Capital Resources Capital resource: resources a society uses to further the creation of wealth, such as factories, buildings, equipment. Example: CHS – Building used to enrich the human resources.

Human Resources The people that live there, as well as the
developed natural resources and capital resources, work to bring a country economic self sufficiency. Three characteristics: Exist in sufficient numbers to form a labour pool and a domestic market for the goods and services Enjoy a level of health that enables people to work productively and raise families Be provided with an opportunity for education and training Read Human Resources the Key to Irish “Miracle” (p. 217) 5

Mineral Key factors in deciding to mine ore deposits are:
The extent and concentration of the mineral The price the mineral will bring in after it has been processed The cost of extracting, processing and transporting the mineral
