Caterpillar or Larva
Chrysalis or Pupa

4. Egg Stage
A female lays an egg on a leaf
They hatch in about 5 days

5. Caterpillar or Larva Stage
Grows and eats lots of food!
Grows the most during this stage
It then hangs itself upside down and attatches itself to a twig

6. Chrysalis or Pupa Stage
The caterpillar is disguised in a case to protect itself from its enemies
It is going through metamorphosis or changing into a butterfly

7. Butterfly Stage Known as the “adult” stage
The butterfly breaks open the chrysalis
Instead of eating, it drinks nectar from flowers
