Directions for writing a letter to the old country: You will write a ONE PAGE letter to a relative still living in the country from which you emigrated. The letter will be one page in length and should be written so that the reader understands what it was like to be processed through Ellis Island. The letter should describe all of the following: 1. Your feelings and hopes upon arrival at New York harbor 2. What happened to you during your time at Ellis Island 3. Your living conditions/job 4. Your plans for the future Use your journal entries from Immigration Activity (handout) and the notes you recorded while watching Far and Away to help you write a detailed and creative letter!
