1 Writing Lesson #19 Writing a Thesis!

2 Thesis Statement: No three prongs!
Your thesis must include: Manageable subject (ex: reality television) Specific feeling about that subject (a false image of reality) Manageable Subject + Specific Feeling = Thesis Reality television gives viewers a false image of reality. Your turn … write your thesis statement! (It can be tentative)

3 Ask yourself: Is my thesis one sentence in length?
Does my thesis express only ONE idea? Does my thesis take a stand (present an argument)? Is my thesis specific? Does it pass the “so what” or “who cares” test? Does thesis follow the formula? (Main idea/subject + Specific Feeling = Thesis)

4 Now ask yourself: Does my thesis focus on a specific idea?
Is my thesis stated in a clear, direct sentence? Is my thesis supported by the information gathered from my sources?

5 Quick Edit CECs Does my context provide enough info for the audience to understand what is going on? Is the quotation well chosen? Does the quotation support my thesis? Is the quotation clear? Is the quotation to short/too long? Does my commentary explain why the quotation matters?

6 Quick Edit CECs, continued
Do you have 1 quotation per article? Does each quotation have: Quotation marks? Correct punctuation? Correct citation? Does it match the source on the Works Cited?
