Childcare Survey results
Child Care Committee survey findings: Staff have 145 children <6 years old Grad students have 113 children <6 years old 240 CUA community members would be “very likely” to use on-campus childcare Metropolitan School’s childcare survey findings: 143 respondents, 147 children 98% of respondents do not receive childcare subsidies Greatest needs in infant, emergency, and holiday care 55% require all-day care for their children

GSA Work Brainstormed additional inexpensive alternatives:
Children’s room on campus Collaborative contract with other DC area schools at a childcare facility Spoke with deans of education, nursing, social work about obstacles: Students wouldn’t be able to participate in any childcare for credit or experience Childcare via undergraduates is not condoned Various liability and expense issues with childcare facility on campus All were VERY enthusiastic about providing care in any form, and offered any help needed YOUR NAME COULD BE HERE: contribute more ideas! GSA Next Steps Need, campus support, and current research: strike while the iron’s hot! Preparation of letter from GSA to Academic Senate & Dean of Students Suggestions: Joint agreement between other local schools and outside facility Subsidized partnership with emergency/drop-in care providers Establishment of child-safe area on campus
